trv #007 - the Pidgeons, "Ophelia"

Pidgeons filmed by Debbie Hay

"steal my sister from my house, take some flour from my kitchen, use my bedroom for your things, you can take down all my walls, Ophelia. stay awake till we get home. collapse blindly, without mission, ask permission, before sinning, use protection, don't ask nicely, take control and then apply, Ophelia. stay awake till we get home."

not all of our songs sounded like this. this was actually the oldest song in our repertoire, our longest song, and our slowest song. i think it was also our only song in 3/4. we played this song at the end of nearly every show and half the people hated it and half the people slow danced. another half didn't like us to begin with and were getting annoyed that we were going on for so long on this slow last number. the ending got more chaotic the more we played it especially as we were breaking up. i remember diving into PJ's drumset at the end of ophelia at a gig in front of 15 wallflower emo-girls in eastern PA. this performance was at west windsor-plainsboro north highschool where our cigarettes were taken and we were threatened by a fat security guard who probably couldn't tell the difference between his face and his asshole. i guess that's what you get for playing a benefit show - hauling all your shit to a venue for no pay. it was a great set though and opposing perfection (now Anchorage) followed us, getting kicked off stage for coming on drunk with a george W bush mask on and then proceeding to impale it on a mike stand, screaming obscenities. -Conor Meara (c/o tamur.records)
